It’s that time of the year again! The Pinewood Derby season is upon us, and once again I (and Jill) will be coordinating.
This will be the first of my weekly emails that you will be receiving leading up to the Pinewood Derby. It is my intent to pass along needed information and any changes that occur to keep everyone ready.
The time and date of this year’s PWD is at 3:00pm on Saturday, March 3. It will be held at the Mohler Center on the Hershey Medical Center campus.
Weigh-ins date and time still has to be determined. During weigh-ins, we will have supplies readily available should your scouts need assistance making any finishing touches to their cars. Cars will be assigned a number and then be impounded. At that point, the scouts will not see their cars again until race day. Cars need to be weighed-in and impounded in order to participate.
A Pack 65 version of the BSA Pinewood Derby rules and categories are available by clicking HERE.
We would appreciate parent assistance on the day of the race. We will need to move the track, supplies, and the PWD cars from the church to the Mohler Center, as well as clean up, and then move the track and supplies back to the church. We would definitely need at least one person with a truck.
The Webelos Den be providing refreshments for sale to raise funds for the Blue and Gold Banquet.
As with most of our events, it is our hope to use the PWD as a recruiting event, so if you know a family that you think would benefit from Scouting, please invite them, and have their son bring a car.
Regarding race day, we will kick of the derby with a Porcupine/family/friend race. No awards to the winner, just bragging rights. The Lions and Tigers will follow with their own den race, being that they cannot cut their cars and will be racing blocks. After the Tigers race, all of the dens, including the Lions and Tigers, will follow with a Pack-wide race. Trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd place finishers per den, and 1st, 2nd, 3rd finishers overall, along with medals for category winners.
If your scout wants to enter their car for a certain category (non-speed), please have them inform me at weigh-ins. If a category your scout wishes to enter is not listed, just let me know by email.
I hope everyone is enjoying their time assisting their scouts as THEY build THEIR own car (wink, wink). It should be a great time. Please continue to check your emails for updates. Should you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 717-269-0544 or email me at email@example.com.
The Hershey Bears sleepover game is Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Giant Center. Your entire family is welcome to come. You can attend the game only or stay for the sleepover. If you stay for the sleepover, you will receive a meal voucher to use during the game, skating on the ice after the game, animal show from the Hershey zoo, a movie on the jumbotron, and breakfast in the morning. Parking is also included for those who sleepover. The cost is $51 / person. To attend the game only, the cost is $20.50 / person.
If you are interested in going, please let me know how many people will be sleeping over and how many people will be attending the game only. I will collect money at the Nov, Dec, and Jan pack meetings. I will be sending in our ticket count and money at the end of January.
